The University of Manchester Library is one of only five National Research Libraries in the United Kingdom. With more than 4 million printed books and manuscripts, over 36,000 electronic journals and 500,000 electronic books, as well as several hundred databases, the Library is one of the best-resourced academic libraries in the country.
Largely housed in the grand neo-Gothic splendour of The John Rylands Library, the Special Collections of The University of Manchester contain some of the most significant printed books and manuscripts ever produced, alongside archive collections and visual resources documenting a wealth of cultural, literary, historical and religious traditions from around the world.
The Library endeavors to make these collections as accessible as possible – both to the scholarly community and the wider public – by encouraging discovery, exploration and fun.
